Spains Ministry of Education, Culture & Sport has just announced the Prizes for the Best Published Books of 2012. Although unaccompanied by cash awards, these annual Prizes are highly valued by publishers in terms of prestige and recognition for the work they do. The publicity they bring is also most welcome, as prize winners are included in book promotion campaigns and are displayed at major Spanish and international book fairs.
Altogether the jury deliberated over 196 works included in five themed groups. Winning titles in the Art Books category are:
First Prize: Antología de Ilustraciones,, by Jimmy Liao, published by Bárbara Fiore Editora S.L.
Second Prize: El vidrio en la pintura del Museo Nacional del Prado, by José María Fernández Navarro and Francisco Capel del Águila, published by Spains higher council for scientific research, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas. Co-published with the Prado Museum and the Spanish ceramics and glass association, the Sociedad Española de Cerámica y Vidrio.
Third Prize: Goya: Prints of Invention. Caprichos, Disasters, Tauromachy The Follies, by José Manuel Matilla and Javier Novo, published by the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum Foundation (Fundación Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao).
