• In April 1902 he exhibited works in Paris with Regoyos, Uranga and Canals. The Lottery Seller is an example of his interest in the painting of the Golden Age, tinged by the historical consciousness that infused Spanish art in the wake of what subsequently came to be known as the spirit or Generation of '98. A portraitist of great ability, Losada is exceedingly eloquent when it comes to portraying popular types such as bullfighters, guitar players, gypsy women and country folk. Eloquence is to the fore here in this highly sensitive portrait of a marginalized member of society, seen amongst the kind of hunchbacks and figures with other deformities who had been a regular feature in Spanish painting as far back as the Baroque. In the context of the age, we find the underlying influence of Belgian writer Émile Verhaeren and the powerful fascination his work España Negra (Black Spain) exerted on painters. Losada revised the prints of the woodcuts by Darío de Regoyos that illustrated the 1898 edition of Verhaeren's work. (Santiago)Arcediano]
