The online collection and picture sale

• The Irresistible Rise of Incompleteness is a waterlogged landscape with the remains of the mining industry around the river at Bilbao in the shape of old mineral loading platforms. In the foreground is an enigmatic spiral staircase. A dismal Romanticism dominates the image. This Romanticism, as in other paintings of the time, reveals itself in the interest in the picturesque, the sinister, the visionary fantasy, the taste for ruins (in Lazkano's case satisfied by industrial archaeology) and the pantheistic commotion of nature. The apparent infiniteness of the spiral that takes the central role in the painting elaborates on this disturbing sensation. (Javier Viar) (Marta García Maruri)
