Zaindu – The Museum Restores 2011
Sponsored by El Corte Inglés Bilbao department store, the annual Zaindu–The Museum Restores programme oversees the restoration of a group of artworks in the Museum’s permanent collection. Selected for restoration this year were the paintings Women of the Sea by Gustavo de Maeztu (1887-1947), Conversation piece, cum tiffin, and Conversation piece, just leisure, by José María de Ucelay (1903-1979), and Samson and Delilah, by Pieter van der Werff (1665-1722), the sculpture Cepa 2 by Vicente Larrea (1934), the drawings Militiamen in Extremadura and Basque Village in 1936 by Carlos Sáenz de Tejada (1897-1958) and the engraving The Virgin of the Wall by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528).
