White Night 2011
Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. Sketches of Colombia
8.30 p.m. to 2.00 a.m.
Piano, poetry, short films, silleteros and Colombian harps
This year’s White Night at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum has a programme of sketches of Colombia organized with assessment from the Colombian Embassy in Spain. Our tour of the Museum galleries is enlivened by a musical fantasy on the piano, a literary evening with passages from works by Gabriel García Márquez and José Manuel Crespo, short films on issues affecting Colombia, a reception by silleteros from Medellín and a harp recital.
A) Recital of Latin American music (gallery 22)
A musical fantasy with Rodolfo Parachini on piano playing a selection of master works by leading Colombian composers.
B) Dramatized reading (gallery 32)
Passages from works by Nobel Prize winner for Literature Gabriel García Márquez and poet José Manuel Crespo.
C) Short film screening (Mogrovejo Hall)
Three short films by contemporary Colombian directors, all of them award winners at major international film festivals: In August (2008, written and directed by Andrés Barrientos and Carlos Andrés Reyes), The Mirror (2006, written and directed by Lilí Cabrera and Valerio Veneras, Wrong (2009, written and directed by Felipe Rueda).
D) Silleteros (Plaza Chillida)
Once simple sellers of flowers and market garden produce, the silleteros have evolved into genuine floral craftsmen, using their remarkable skills to hand-fashion silletas, original and elaborate compositions produced with a refined aesthetic sense, which they display during their annual parade in Medellín.
E) The Colombian Harp: Arpas llaneras (gallery 9)
Concert of Colombian llanera music.
