Torii arches in bilbao
Japanese art and japanism
The advertising campaign designed by Herederos de Rowan for the exhibition Japanese Art and Japonisme has been launched with a striking piece of urban marketing: two torii built by Estudios Durero. One is located on the Gran Vía in Bilbao next to the headquarters of BBK Fundazioa, the exhibition’s sponsor, while the other is opposite the old entrance to the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao.
A symbol of good luck and prosperity in Japanese culture, a torii is a two-columned arch supporting two parallel beams. They are often to be seen at the entrance of shrines and are generally painted vermilion.
