The museum’s website now adapted for mobiles
New Mobile Web
The exponential growth in the use of mobile phones has been accompanied by a demand for access to the internet, which was previously done from computers through these devices. However, users’ experiences have been generally unsatisfactory, given that neither the contents nor navigation have met their expectations and requirements.
For this reason the Museum, in conjunction with the Basque company Suggiero , has developed its own Mobile Web based on adapted contents and with a navigation model specifically for tactile devices in which usability has been given priority. It includes a drop-down window with visitor information (opening times, ticket prices, map and activities) as well as essential information on the Museum’s collection.
Particularly outstanding is the Masterpieces section, which includes a roulette with a selection of 17 works with explanatory texts and an image for each one that can be enlarged. A level of interaction has been achieved comparable to that of an app through a purposely-designed script that generates an effect of circular movement around the pages. The user can also easily navigate through the high-definition images of each work, appreciating their details. The map of the Museum has also been adapted to make it easy to consult from a smartphone.
The technologies used are principally HTML5, CSS3 and Jquery Mobile.
