At the Second Edition of the recently-held Descubrir el Arte (Discover Art) Awards, the magazine jury decided to award the prize for the Best Artistic Programme to the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. The magazine, leader in its particular field, has a circulation figure of more than 118,000 copies. With these awards, both magazine collaborators and staff alike acknowledge the work of museums, foundations, artists and professionals belonging to the art world that together "paint a sort of Identikit picture of the vitality of our artistic panorama".
At the presentation of the Award at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, Javier Barón, Conservator of the Prado Museum, Madrid, defined the prize as "an outstanding example. From the very time the Museum was founded – and whose bicentenary we celebrated two years ago – it has received the constant support of Basque society and its collectors, as well as that of Basque institutions", referring to the Museum exhibition programme of the past few years that included exhibitions dedicated to Caravaggio, Poussin, Rodin, Female Impressionists, Zurbarán, British Pop, Chillida and Basque Artists, or more recent and highly successful exhibitions dedicated to Sorolla and Murillo.
Lastly, he reflected: “This well-balanced programme in which the Museum’s own collection had a significant specific weight is fruit of an approach that is very closely linked with the Museum itself that, for this and its continuity over the years, is revealing itself to be of exceptional consistency".
