Presentation of a restored tapestry
EXHIBITION HALL 7: THE COURT PORTRAIT.
The Real Fábrica de Tapices, Madrid, has recently finished restoring an outstanding XVII-century tapestry belonging to the Museum since it was donated in 1953. For this presentation, a completely-new exhibition, including some remarkable examples of XVI- and XVII-century court portraits, can be seen in Exhibition Hall Nº 7 under the title of "El Retrato Cortesano" ("Court Portraiture"). The paintings by Antonio Moro, Alonso Sánchez Coello, Juan Pantoja de la Cruz and Frans Pourbus, the Younger, can now be seen in completely-new surroundings to which XVI- and XVII-century furniture has been added: i.e. a lawyer’s bureau and the previously-mentioned tapestry, both of which have been restored and analysed in studies that permit visitors to see them in a completely new light.
