Museum to host Telefónica´s Cubist Collection in september
Spanish telecom operator TelefónicaŽs major collection of Cubist artworks, built around an original holding of 11 works by Juan Gris, makes abundantly clear just what a far-reaching, international-scale phenomenon the Cubist movement was, while at the same time underlining the major contribution made to it by Spanish and Latin American artists.
Comprising 43 works produced between 1912 and 1933 by some of the finest Cubist painters, the exhibition features major works by Juan Gris, Albert Gleizes, Rafael Barradas, María Blanchard, Jean Metzinger, Louis Marcoussis, André Lhote, Joaquín Torres-García, Manuel Ángeles Ortiz, Vicente do Rego Monteiro, Alexandra Exter, Natalia Goncharova, Auguste Herbin, Georges Valmier, Xul Solar, Celso Lagar, Joaquín Peinado, Daniel Vázquez Díaz and Emilio Pettoruti. Works in mixed media and collageaccompany the oil paintings on show. One interesting late addition is a series of three poems painted by Vicente Huidobro.
