Koto concert
Japanese art and japanism
The Palacio Collection of Oriental Art, put together by José Palacio between 1925 and 1932, became part of the Bilbao Fine Arts Collection in 1953 as a bequest from his heir María de Arechavaleta.
Thanks to the BBK sponsorship, the exhibition showcases some 221 pieces of Japanese art. It also sheds light on its influence on 19th century Western art, on abstract art and art informel in the second half of the 20th century, through thirty or so works also in the Museum holdings.
On that ocassion we have organized a Koto concert.
The koto, a sort of arp played in horizontal position, is one of Japan’s oldest instruments. Yoshie Sakai, of one of its most renowned performers, will offer a huge repertoire of traditional and contemporary music.
Friday, June 13th 17:00 hours. Auditorium.
Collect your invitation at the Museum’s ticket desk on the day of the lecture, from 10am onwards (8 € Friends of the Museum/ 10 € general public).
