Japanese Art in the Palacio Collection
The Museum is set to join the second Nihon Jaia festival of Japanese culture held in Bilbao on 12, 13 and 14 November
From 11 to 28 November, a generous selection of nearly one hundred and fifty works of Japanese art from the Palacio Collection of Oriental Art will be on display at the Museum. Divided into four sections, prints and paintings, the samurai, the tea ceremony and the everyday, the exhibition will give spectators a good idea of the sheer quality and the quite exceptional nature of the collection, one of the very few of its kind in our area. Comprising three hundred-plus works in all, more than two thirds of which are Japanese, this highly unusual set of works was donated to the Museum in 1953 by María de Arechavaleta, heiress to Bilbao art collector José Palacio.
