Iberdrola Museum Programme 2013
Presentation of restored works and a new grant for training
Restoration of two 15th century panel paintings, a painting by Arteta and one by Balerdi, plus six drawings by Joan González<
Early this year, Iberdrola intensified its commitment to the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum by providing welcome support for the annual conservation and restoration programme for artworks in the Museum collection. At the same time, it is to continue to finance educational programmes at the Museum targeting special needs publics.
In 2013, two paintings on panel by Nicolás Solana, The Ascension and Noli Me Tangere, were restored under the artwork conservation and restoration programme. From the Aragonese school, the two paintings date from the early decades of the 15th century. Six works on paper by Joan González (Barcelona, 1868–1908), the large-scale painting Portico, from around 1905, by Aurelio Arteta (Bilbao, 1879–Mexico City, 1940) and the 1967 painting Cardinal I by Balerdi (San Sebastian, 1934–Alicante, 1992).
New Iberdrola Foundation-Bilbao Fine Arts Museum Grant for the Conservation and Restoration of artworks
Apart from its involvement in educational and conservation issues, on which it works closely with the Museum, the Iberdrola Foundation is now set to provide support for training, with the announcement of the first Iberdrola Foundation-Bilbao Fine Arts Museum Grant for the Department of Conservation & Restoration. The Iberdrola Foundation has thus intensified its commitment to the Museum by facilitating the training of specialists at the highest level within one of its most prestigious departments.
