GLOCAL. Caring for art today, here, now
Summer Course
In 1919, the International Painting and Sculpture Exhibition was presented in Bilbao, one of the first and most ambitious initiatives to internationally contextualise modern Spanish art. In hindsight, that memorable cultural event can be equated with the idea of glocal, which has a special connotation in our city one century later, when the Guggenheim´s expansion model tested in Bilbao has been adopted by other long-established museums like the Louvre.
From the unique vantage point of a fine arts museum, we will strive to provide visibility to the rich ecosystem of institutions and agents working from a global and local perspective today, here and now, and to reflect on the varied guises of curatorship as an instrument to interpret and mediate in both contemporary art and retrospectively.
