Txomin Badiola

Bad Form

1st Floor - Contemporary Art

Bad form is the most complete overview to date of the work Badiola (Bilbao, 1957) has done since 1990, when he moved to New York, where he lived for eight years. Since then his work has undergone a formal and conceptual transformation. The current exhibition includes hybrid installations of sculpture, video, photography and sound that combine a range of artistic idioms. The process of hybridisation, rooted in the late modern forms of specificity and artistic autonomy, integrates elements of popular culture like romantic photo-novels, film, television, wallpaper music and comics. Making use of mechanisms of representation appropriated from cinema and theatre, Badiola constructs everyday situations using the resources of narrative fiction. This method is applied in this exhibition, which has been conceived as a single installation working as a huge theatre-like setting that endows the works presented with renewed narrative vigour.
