Vicente López. The Invention of a History Painting
Art context exhibition on a work by painter Vicente López (1772-1850) "Cyrus the Great with the bodies of Abradatus and Panthea" (1839). Using a dozen studies and preliminary drawings, the exhibition reconstructs the process by which one of the artist’s most ambitious history scenes was created. Although the finished work has disappeared, the Museum recently received in deposit a major preliminary sketch for the painting.
