Museum, a space transformed

Room B

Museum, a space transformed is a selection of photographs taken by Patxi Cobo (Ortuella, Bizkaia, 1953) during the large-scale reform work and extension to the Museum facilities, a task which was carried out between 1999 and 2001 and was directed by the architect Luis Mª Uriarte. During this time, Patxi Cobo interpreted the metamorphosis inside and outside the Museum on over one thousand five hundred photographs which form a genuine report on the modernisation process. Here Cobo availed himself of two basic parameters: repetition of locations, where, according to the photographer himself, “the consciousness of time becomes obvious”, and colour shots alongside black and white. On the first anniversary of the re-opening of the Museum, Museum, a space transformed is a collection of over fifty photographs which show some of the work carried out on the Museum and a live recording of its transformation.
