Christmas at the museum
Based on the painter Darío Urzay's 'imaginary museum' concept, our initiative entails passing through five fictitious doors that form the basic structure of the museum's collection in a guided visit that includes challenges, activations and questions. Boys and girls will travel through outstanding works that are part of the BBKateak exhibition and, at the end, they will take part in a workshop designed to stimulate artistic expression.
Public: from 5 to 12 years old. Adult accompaniment not required
Capacity per session: 15 seats
Price per session: Friends of the Museum €8 / General €10
Registration: online here or at the museum box office from Thursday, 15 December 2022 (Friends of the Museum from Tuesday, 12 December 2022)
Door 1. Starting the journey at sea
Workshop 1: Messages from the museum (making Christmas postcards)
26 December 2022 or 2 January 2023 (from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
The first door explores the cultural tradition around the sea with works by Julián de Tellaeche, Quintín de Torre and Adolfo Guiard, and the elements that are common to them, such as sailing boats, the use of the colour blue and the figure of the sailor. The visit is rounded off with a workshop for making Christmas postcards that will be sent from the museum.

SOLD OUT
Workshop 2: Crafting with cut-outs (creating collages)
27 December 2022 or 3 January 2023 (from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
Like Alice in Lewis Carroll's tale, the second door passes through the world of the mirror and its multiple perspectives. The revolving door by Antonio de Guezala or Lying figure in mirror by Francis Bacon are the springboard for a game involving looking at things from a different angle, in another way. Following this reflection, the children will apply what they have learned in a collage production workshop.
.Door 3. Colour strokes
SOLD OUT
Workshop 3: Deco(r)art I (making Christmas decorations)
28 December 2022 or 4 January 2023 (from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
The use of colour characterises the painting Washerwomen in Arles by Paul Gauguin and the sculptural ensemble Premature light-Lendia song by Elena Aitzkoa. It is precisely the pigments that give volume and movement to these works. For this reason, the session explores those colour strokes to then apply them in a workshop for making Christmas decorations. .
Door 4. Fantastic worlds
SOLD OUT
Workshop 4: Deco(r)art II (around the Christmas tree)
29 December 2022 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
Ibilbide honek hainbat paisaia, zelai eta zuhaitz zeharkatzen ditu, baina, pixkanaka, perspektiba estutuz doa, belar, adar, sustrai eta bestelako elementuak ezagutu arte. Godofredo Ortega Muñozen eta Juan Luis Goenagaren lanen arteko elkarrizketak irudimena pizten du, eta Gabonetako zuhaitzaren inguruko arte-tailer batean zehazten diren beste mundu posible batzuk aktibatzen ditu.
Door 5. Amatxus
Workshop 5 Gure amatxu (artistic drawing on the Christmas tradition)
30 December 2022 or 5 January 2023 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
The representation of the Virgin and Child is one of the great themes in the history of art. For this reason, we propose a visit to recognise that image through different styles, such as that of Francisco de Zurbarán or Isabel Baquedano. It ends with a workshop that invites boys and girls to express their own ideas about this tradition.
Register here >Thanks to the collaboration agreement signed with the Bilbao Choral Society, the museum is offering a Christmas concert given by the students of Professor Marta Ubieta's Singing Class, who will be performing opera arias and Christmas songs accompanied by Alberto Sáez on the piano. Hot chocolate will be on offer at the end of the concert.
