Back Side
Fashion from Behind
BBK Gallery
In a society obsessed with frontal views, Back Side / Fashion from Behind is an original, unexpected theme. Addressing our body's relationship with clothing from a social and psychological standpoint, the exhibition questions our perception of our and other people's backs. The rear is a reminder of our limitations: it is hidden from view and even from touch, to some extent. However, fashion constantly decorates it, fills it or reveals it. Messages and patterns are shown unequivocally on this part of our body, and yet we never see the looks they attract.
This exceptional exhibition of garments and accessories from the collections of the Palais Galliera (Fashion Museum of Paris) will present more than 100 pieces from the 18th century until todayfrom a majestic court gown to a backpackforging a dialogue between fashion, painting and sculpture. A selection of excerpts from films and photographs will round out the show.
