BBKateak first rotation
The first rotation of the Face to Face between artists in the collection is getting underway as part of the BBKateak series with three new pairings: Kitagawa Utamaro / Adolfo Guiard, Aurelio Arteta / Agustín Ibarrola and Benito Barrueta / Inés Medina
After the presentation of the first 21 galleries in the Face to Face / BBKateak project this summer, the project’s rotation is getting started with three new galleries which showcase encounters between unique artists in the collection. Kitigawa Utamaro’s fascinating ukiyo-e and Adolfo Guiard’s drawings and paintings show the inspiring dialogue between Oriental art and modern European painting in the nineteenth century (gallery 8). The paintings of Aurelio Arteta and Agustín Ibarrola, now shown together in the same space, reveal the continuity in the way labour in rural and urban spaces was represented between the first and second half of the twentieth century (gallery 12). Likewise, Studio Interior by the painter from Bermeo, Benito Barrueta, provides the occasion to show the work by the artist Inés Medina from the Bi-Three-dimensional Dialectic series (1980–1981), recently acquired by the museum, for the first time (gallery 1).
