A painting by Arrue in the 2016/17 season official poster
Athletic Club of Bilbao football team has included a painting from the museum's collection in the background of the first official team poster of the 2016/17 season. Entitled Romería [Country festival], this is a typical work by the painter and Athletic fan José Arrúe (Bilbao 185-Llodio, Álava, 1977), painted in 1920.
Athletic Club inspired now celebrated works by Arrúe such as The San Mames Pitch (1913-14), The Athletic Club Team (1915), which depicts the members of the team that won the Cup, led by Mr Barnes, and a number of illustrations.
Kutxabank, Athletic Club's sponsor, will be giving away 100,000 of these posters to all their clients at their branches. It will also be on sale from official Athletic Club outlets.
