The action takes place inside a temple before the altar table presided over by a small altarpiece depicting saints like Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian, accompanied by the martyred saints, as they are carrying the palm frond of martyrdom. These saints were the subject of popular devotion in Castilian lands in the second half of the fifteenth century. As was common, this altarpiece was surmounted by a Calvary.

Saint Martin is wearing a white alb and a gilded brocade chasuble with a red lining. All three figures in the foreground on either side of the scene are holding their hands together in prayer. They have plain, angular faces, although there are some attempts to model them in order to provide a sense of volume. The folds in their clothing also seek to create a sense of volume.

In some places, the light emanating from the figures affects the intensity of the colour, achieving some tonal variations, like the luminous whites and soft blues and pinks in the angels' tunics. The drawing shows closed lines with some incisions to highlight the outlines, and the compositional system tends towards symmetry.

The artist focuses on the floor in order to achieve a certain perspective. The painter carefully thought out the perspective and placed the altar on an oblique line and the wooden bench in the foreground parallel to it. (Ana Galilea)
