This painting follows the Byzantine legend according to which Christ was present at his mother's death. Jesus, who appears on the right side of the painting, is holding the soul of Mary in his left hand, portrayed by the figure of a little girl, while he bestows a blessing with his right hand. They are accompanied by three angels. There is some disorder in the composition, as the size of the figures is subordinated to the frame around them. Therefore, there are apostles whom we don't see because they did not fit, and we have to imagine their existence via the depiction of the series of halos. This is a scenographic grouping in which the figures are gesticulating or mutely witnessing what is happening in their presence.

All the figures have golden halos with stippling except the one that Jesus is wearing, which is bears a cross. The figures are all wearing simple clothing based on a tunic and cloak. The compositional lines are characterised by the contrast between the horizontality of Mary's body and the verticality of the apostles, Christ and the angels accompanying them. (Ana Galilea)
