The online collection and picture sale

In the early 1920s he produced a series of paintings and drawings on the theme of underprivileged children and slum life. One of these is Sad Little Girl, where the Cézanne and Cubist influences take the composition towards the purest synthesis. While the forms and volumes are schematized and reduced to a linear structure, the line becomes the central feature, embodiment of perfection and order, and the practically inexistent colour is absorbed by the support. This rather disturbing composition oozes solitude and melancholy, enhanced by a palette of blacks and cold blues. The image of the girl, seen from above, is intensely troubling. (Arantxa Pereda)
