With the legacy of Rodin's values, undoubtedly strengthened by his time with Bourdelle, Barros's Boxer is distinguished by anatomical values and the credible definition of a particular sporting pose. The composition is impregnated with a spatial sense that nevertheless explores the allegorical: an idealized model in bronze exercising and influenced by the "return to order" of 1930s Italian sculpture.
