Jesus Mari Lazkano originally painted Bilbo MMX, a huge work measuring 125 x 720 cm, for the exhibition area devoted to Bilbao at the Shanghai Expo (May/October, 2010).
It will be on permanent display at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. Bilbo MMX is a panoramic view featuring the city's main architectural landmarks. As the exhibition "Lazkano. From Architecture to Nature" (2010/10/04-2011/01/16) at the Museum made clear, Lazkano's figuration recreates architectures and landscapes in minute, painstaking detail to achieve a photographic realism. Bilbo MMX is clearly of a piece with the artist's most recent paintings, and is the latest example of his prolific production of murals for public spaces. (Marta García Maruri)
