Artearen Ibilbidea / La Ruta del Arte / Art Route
30 january to 30 june 2018
Sponsored by BBK
In collaboration with the Provincial Council of Bizkaia
In a joint initiative with the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and BBK, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia is presenting Artearen ibilbidea / La ruta del arte (Art Route), a travelling exhibition comprising 40 high-quality reproductions of masterpieces in the museum's permanent collection. Over the course of 5 months (30 January to 30 June) this exhibition will be travelling to nearly 60 towns and villages in Bizkaia on a journey in which the principal concept is that of introducing local people to art.
The project has been devised for this year, when the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum celebrates the 110th anniversary of its foundation, and with the principal aim of contributing to the dissemination of its collection and of facilitating the public's access to art outside the museum's own building. As a result, all those visiting the exhibition can make contact with the works and appreciate the rich, shared cultural heritage that the museum houses, discovering the paintings by great masters of different periods and schools contained in its collection.
The 40 chosen works are reproduced life-size and in high-resolution, some in their entirety and others in the form of details. The artists represented are:
Anonymous Medieval Catalan painter, Bartolomé Bermejo, Jan Mandijn, Martin de Vos, El Greco, Frans Pourbus, Orazio Gentileschi, José de Ribera, Francisco de Zurbarán, Anthony van Dyck, Pieter Fransz de Grebber, Juan de Arellano, Bartolomé E. Murillo, Luis Paret, Francisco de Goya, Anselmo Guinea, Mary Cassatt, Paul Gauguin, Joaquín Sorolla, Darío de Regoyos, Adolfo Guiard, Ignacio Zuloaga, José Gutiérrez Solana, Valentín de Zubiaurre, Aurelio Arteta, Juan de Echevarría, Robert Delaunay, Daniel Vázquez Díaz, Antonio de Guezala, María Blanchard, Nicolás de Lekuona, José María de Ucelay, Antoni Tàpies, Francis Bacon, Agustín Ibarrola, Antonio Sistiaga, Balerdi, Vicente Ameztoy, Alfonso Gortázar and Eduardo Arroyo.
Technical design
The images of the works are printed on Chromaluxe, a tough, high-resistance aluminium support, using an innovative digital technique called sublimation. This allows the works to be reproduced in astonishing detail and in very faithful colour. The technical aspect of this project has been undertaken by the Bizkaian company Estudios Durero.
Project and educational activities
This “travelling museum” project has been coordinated by Miriam Alzuri of the museum's Exhibitions Department. She has also prepared the accompanying commentaries, which aim to offer keys to a visual reading that assists in a comprehension and enjoyment of each of the selected works. María Victoria Antoñanzas and César Ochoa of the museum's Education and Cultural Action Department have devised the educational aspect of this project, for which an educator will accompany the visiting public, guiding them round the selection and answering any questions. There will also be interactive tours for different groups.
Interactive tours
An important element that complements the exhibition are the free interactive tours for school pupils (ESO, Bachillerato and FP) and for cultural groups and associations.
These tours will take place from 10am to 11.30am and from 4pm to 5pm, every 30 minutes and in groups of no more than 25 people.
