Art at the Peak

2011 was one of the best years in the Museum’s history. 259,968 visitors in a year crammed with exhibitions, activities and all kinds of art-related encounters and experiences. Personal and collective emotions that help to create a more cultivated, humanized society.

In the same cooperative spirit, the Museum joined the Bilbao Association of Friends of the Opera and property agent Umpro in helping out on Biscay mountaineer Alex Txikon’s "Umpro K2" expedition, which left Guernica in May for Skardú (Pakistan), where the van used for the trip was donated to the Félix Balstitan Foundation. A journey of 7,000 kilometres by road, during which the members stopped occasionally to perform exhibitions of Basque rural sports before tackling the climb up one of the world’s highest mountains.
