“After ´68” exhibition activities
VIDEO SERIES. THE ART OF TIME
Curated by Guadalupe Echevarría, one of the pioneers in studying, programming and disseminating audiovisual practices in Spain, this series offers a snapshot of creative video in the Basque Country through a selection of 16 pieces made between 1982 and 2017 and chronologically grouped into two sessions. The first offers a sample of the incipient videographic production in the Basque country in the late 1980s and early 1990s, while the second offer a survey of some of the proposals by the youngest creators made in the new millennium.

ARTWORKS FOR DE-OCCUPYING AND OCCUPYING TIME IN THE MUSEUM
This is a programme of encounters between artists and experts based on six works. Some of them are part of the exhibition After '68, while others come from the same time period, conceptual frame or from the museum's collection. Each of the encounters offers a chance to discuss the work chosen, the museum's recent history and the local artistic context. They are organised in conjunction with Bulegoa z/b, the art and knowledge bureau made up of Beatriz Cavia, Miren Jaio and Leire Vergara.

FILM SERIES
This s a retrospective by the film director and scriptwriter José Julián Bakedano which surveys five decades of Basque cinema through more than 30 titles, primarily feature films produced in Basque, the outcome of the efforts of five generations of filmmakers. The series, which begins in 1968 with the seminal film Ama Lur and ends with Errementari, shows different genres ranging from documentaries to dramas, thrillers and comedies, a wide range of styles which shed light on the evolution of film production in the Basque Country.

La casa sin fronteras (Pedro Olea, 1972)
This is a Kafkaesque horror story set primarily in Bilbao. A naive young man arrives in the capital of Bizkaia and is captured by a secret society called the "House without Frontiers". However, he falls in the hands of a spy ring which leads him to confront the organisation.

El espíritu de la colmena (Víctor Erice, 1973)
This is the first feature film by Víctor Erice, the winner of the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival. It is a post-war story which reflects the frustrations of a group of adults and the story of two girls who dream about the monster Frankenstein, which they saw in a mobile cinema.

Ikuzka 3' (Antton Merikaetxeberria, 1979) and Axut (Jose Mari Zabala, 1976)
This is the first celluloid film by the experimental artist Jose Mari Zabala. Starting with an iconography which mixes the traditional and the modern (priests, witches, executives, shepherds, Carlists, thieves, soldiers, dwarves, etc.) and a soundtrack made up of both music and sound, Zabala composes a "metaphysical circus" which poetically and comically alludes to certain aspects of life in the Basque Country.

GUIDED TOURS
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME. COMMENTED TOURS AND SOUND WORKSHOP
This programme is targeted at secondary, vocational and baccalaureate students, along with adults in training programmes and groups with cultural interests. The tour can be completed with a sound-music workshop in which active and shared listening will give the participants a greater understanding of the recent history of Basque music.

ACTIVE LISTENING. PHONOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Can a place be represented through sound, or is sound what constructs the place?
Led by Xabier Erkizia and Luca Rullo, this workshop, which is divided over two days, seeks to create a place to analyse and debate the sound landscape of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and the environs in which it is located. Special attention will be paid to topics like sound design, noise pollution, sound control and listening practices related to everyday life. The workshop is a theoretical-practical exercise which will help us understand how we construct our sound imaginaries and how we put them into practice, not so that we hear critically but so we instead learn to listen.
Xabier Erkizia (Lesaka, Navarra, 1975)
Musician, producer, journalist and sound artist. His work revolves primarily around inquiring into forms of communication or creation which entail listening and sound. He coordinated the sound laboratory of Arteleku, the Contemporary Art and Culture Centre of San Sebastián. He has curated exhibitions and overseen numerous music and sound projects. He regularly contributes to different media as an author and critic, and he is a member of the Audio-lab association, which seeks to foster sound culture. He co-directs the Ertz Other Music Festival in Bera (Navarra).
Luca Rullo (Locarno, Switzerland, 1985)
He earned a technical degree in Computer Engineering and a Bachelor's in Sound Engineering. He develops ICT education projects in cultural promotion companies and self-managed programmes in social centres. Part of his work revolves around researching sound landscapes. Along with Xabier Erkizia, he is one of the main driving forces behind the collaborative Soinumapa.net project, whose purpose is to create a sound map of the Basque Country. He is also a member of the Audio-lab association.

KUKAI DANTZA
Contemporary dance show featuring the company Kukai Dantza created by the dancer and choreographer Jon Maya in 2001. Using traditional Basque dance as the point of departure, the dancers use the museum's modern building as their backdrop to perform a series of choreographies and improvisations that forge a dialogue with the works by the fine artists who are part of the show.
